Montgomery County VINE Coverage
Montgomery County does not publicly confirm that the Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility sends bookings to VINE or VINELink. That gap matters. A national VINELink screen may list Alabama as a choice, but picking a state on a platform proves nothing about which county jails participate or whether a Montgomery booking will return a match. Treat participation as an open question until the live service or the sheriff's office says otherwise.
The Association of County Commissions of Alabama VINE page shows that VINE software is offered to every Alabama county as a purchasing option. Each county has to opt in, fund it, and wire it into local systems. An option on a menu is not a working feed in Montgomery County, so the statewide availability does not settle the local question.

This distinction prevents a generic service description from becoming an unsupported local promise.
Coverage warning: Assume Montgomery County VINE participation is unconfirmed until the live service or MCSO states it outright.
Fresh Montgomery County Arrests
Start with MCSO for a newly reported arrest. The official Recent Arrests page covers bookings from the last 96 hours, so it is a rolling window rather than a dedicated 24-hour list. A separate Current Inmates page shows people the portal counts as still housed in county detention. Those two pages answer different questions about who was arrested in Montgomery County and who remains in custody.
Because Recent Arrests reflects a booking window, a person can still appear there after release. Someone can also sit on Current Inmates long after the arrest stops being new. Booking data and portal refreshes can lag the physical arrest, and MCSO posts no fixed update schedule. The Arrested Today method shows how to trim the county feed down to the current calendar date.
The MCSO web portal shows no usable public booking photo; its data carries empty photo fields. VINE is not a photo service either. For the county booking record and a records-request fallback, use the Montgomery County recent-arrests source guide.
Run a VINE Arrest Check
Search with the coverage warning in mind. A live jurisdiction choice plus an actual returned record tells you far more than any app listing can. When an agency participates, VINE takes a name or an identification number and returns whatever data that agency supplies. Expect similar names to produce more than one match, so check details carefully before relying on a hit.
- Open the VINELink state-selection screen and choose Alabama.
- Confirm that the relevant county, agency, or facility is actually available. Do not assume Mac Sim Butler appears.
- Enter the person’s complete name or agency identification number, if known.
- Compare every available identifier, including age, custody site, and record number. Never rely on a name alone.
- If no result appears, return to the MCSO recent and current pages and call the jail for urgent status.
The official VINELink state-selection source shows how a platform search begins.

The screen shows the national platform only. It says nothing about a Montgomery County jail feed.
What a VINE Result Shows
Each participating agency controls its own data. Fields differ by state, facility, and record. A VINE result is a custody-status notice, nothing more, and it can shift whenever the supplying agency logs a release, a transfer, or another status event.
| Possible field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name | Use with other identifiers because names can match. |
| Agency or offender ID | A source-system identifier that can narrow a records inquiry. |
| Custody status | The latest status supplied to VINE, subject to processing lag. |
| Facility | The reported holding site, which may change after transfer. |
| Notification option | A registration control when that record and jurisdiction support alerts. |
A release entry means the reporting facility no longer holds the person under that record. It does not rule out other holds, other cases, or another agency's interest. A transfer means custody moved somewhere else. A no-result can come from a county that has not joined, a misspelled name, a data delay, protected information, a different facility, or a release that already happened. Silence from VINE is not silence about the arrest itself.
Custody data only: A VINE result in Montgomery County shows an arrest and booking status, with no case details beyond custody.
Register for VINE Custody Alerts
When a valid participating record offers notifications, registration can deliver updates by phone, email, text, or TTY. The VINE app listing describes round-the-clock access across those channels for participating agencies. Whether alerts exist at all depends on the live record and the jurisdiction.
- Open the confirmed person record and select its notification or registration control.
- Choose the offered delivery method and enter the requested destination.
- Create a PIN or security code if the system asks for one. Keep it private.
- Complete any confirmation step sent by phone, text, or email.
- Write down the agency and record used, then maintain a direct facility contact for urgent needs.
Registering for an alert does not reserve or change custody, and it does not guarantee a message arrives before a release or transfer. Phone outages, inbox filters, provider delays, a wrong contact number, and lagging source data can all slow delivery. Never lean on a single alert channel when safety depends on timing.
Alabama VNS Covers State Prison
Alabama runs its own victim notification service, and it works differently than a county arrest search. The Alabama Victim Notification System tracks one group: people already convicted, sentenced, and placed in Alabama Department of Corrections custody. County jail and pretrial questions go somewhere else. The service tells users to contact the county sheriff for those, so a no-match result says almost nothing about a recent Montgomery County arrest. Someone booked into the county jail simply will not appear in the state prison database.
On the practical side, the official Alabama VNS portal shows the state-custody route and how to register for those alerts.

Alabama's VNS tracks people serving sentences in ADOC custody, not those held pretrial at Mac Sim Butler.
| Custody stage | First source |
|---|---|
| Fresh county booking | MCSO Recent Arrests |
| Currently housed by MCSO | MCSO Current Inmates |
| Sentenced state prisoner | Alabama VNS and ADOC search |
| Federal prison | Federal Bureau of Prisons locator |
| Immigration detention | ICE locator or DHS VINE |
VINE Limits and Direct Confirmation
VINE does not reach the Federal Bureau of Prisons. For someone in federal prison, the BOP locator is the right tool, while immigration custody runs through separate ICE and DHS systems. A federal pretrial detainee can move between systems and even land in local housing for a stretch. No single locator covers every stage.
County data also lags. A physical arrest happens before intake is finished, and an intake record can exist before any public page refreshes. A release or transfer may be processed before a notification ever arrives. For an urgent Montgomery County status check, contact the detention agency directly instead of waiting on a web result or an alert.
- Booking
- The intake record created after arrest.
- Pretrial custody
- Detention before a case is finally resolved.
- Transfer
- A move from one facility or authority to another.
- Sentenced custody
- Confinement after conviction and sentence, such as ADOC prison custody.
For records questions, MCSO Records and Identification sits at 100 South Lawrence Street in Montgomery, AL 36104, and answers the phone at (334) 832-1387. If you need a custody answer right away, though, that office is the wrong door. Time-sensitive checks belong with the jail itself or the sheriff's current contact route. Procedures shift, so call ahead before you drive over.
When Montgomery VINE Finds Nothing
A blank VINELink search does not mean someone walked free. Start with the basics. Confirm the spelling of the name and any identifier you have. Then ask whether the jurisdiction you selected actually takes part in VINE at all. From there, turn to the MCSO Recent Arrests and Current Inmates pages, which show Montgomery County bookings directly. City custody is a separate track, so the Montgomery Police Department or Montgomery Municipal Jail may hold the answer. For case status, use the court docket rather than a custody alert platform.
Suspect the person is in an ADOC prison? Search the ADOC inmate system and use Alabama VNS. Federal prison time calls for the BOP locator, and immigration detention calls for the ICE locator. Matching the system to the custody stage works far better than repeating one name search everywhere. Fresh Montgomery County arrests and bookings, meanwhile, stay with MCSO.
Note: Confirm any high-stakes custody change with the agency that physically holds or released the person.
